This coffee comes from the Capadocia Farm in Mantiqueira de Minas – a coffee-producing area in Brazil, located on the south of Minas Gerais – one of the leading coffee-growing regions in Brazil, providing half of the country's production. Mantiqueira de Minas is located in the Minas Gerais side of Mantiqueira mountains. With a secular tradition of producing high quality coffee, Mantiqueira de Minas is considered nowadays one of the most awarded regions in Brazil. In 2011, it was recognized as Geographical Indication (IG). It has over 8 000 coffee producers (mostly small ones (82%)) and nearly 57.000 hectares coerced with coffee.

Augusto Borges Ferreira is a fourth-generation farmer of the Borges and Ferreira families and a member of the APAS Coffee cooperative. First, his father wasn’t keen on him becoming a coffee farmer as it didn’t pay well, but when Augusto started improving the quality and winning competitions his father realized there was a future in coffee.

Capadocia was formerly known as Fazenda Fortaleza, but there are hundreds of farms with such a name in Brazil, so Augusto changed it to Capadocia in honor of the region in Turkey where they fly air balloons. He says, from a balloon, you can see miles ahead and it’s like coffee.

Capadocia is divided into 10 plots and covers 7 ha, 4 of which are devoted to coffee. They mostly grow Yellow and Red Catuai, Yellow Catucai and Mundo Novo varieties. The property is surrounded by riparian woodlands and has two water springs. The average rainfall is between 1250 mm and 1400 mm/year.
